Vågakallen

Vågakallen (943), is a beloved and fabled mountain and is clearly visible from the yard. And if you want to have a good day, you'd do well to greet the mountain before you go to breakfast.

It was long believed (in the old days) that it was Norway's highest mountain, at least here in the north. It was probably mostly because it was an important landmark for sailors who, in the old days, had to cross the infamous Vestfjord to seek their luck during Lofoten fishing.

The hike up is demanding and has several airy sections, so should only be done with good weather forecast and by experienced mountaineers.

The summer hotel is centrally located for excursions in all directions, and you can go on great mountain walks straight from the yard. Around Vågakallen there are many well-known climbing areas. Climbers from all over the world come here to try the many well-known routes that can be found on all sides of the mountain.
